Jonathan Bromley was born in Yorkshire and underwent his medical training at the University of Bristol in the West of England, graduating in 1998. Following a period of work in the south west of England, including the Gastroenterology unit at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, he moved to Canberra where he completed his postgraduate training in internal medicine, specialising in gastroenterology. He was awarded his fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians in 2007. He is a member of GESA, the Australian Gastroenterology Society. He participates in the Conjoint Committee colonoscopy recredentialling requirement and the RACP professional development program.
In 2008 he was awarded an endoscopy fellowship from the Gastroenterology Society of Australia and travelled to St. Mark’s hospital in London where he spent 12 months working with, and learning from, world experts in colonoscopy. St Mark’s is one of only 19 endoscopy centres in the World to be recognised by the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) as a centre of excellence.
Since returning from London 2010 he was invited to join gastotrACT, a practice which had great appeal given its focus on quality patient focused care.
He began working at the Mugga Wara Endoscopy Centre the same year. In 2016 he was invited to become a Director of the facility. He enjoys working as part of a skilled team to provide excellence of care for his patients.
He accepted an appointment at the Canberra Hospital in 2010 working in both the Gastroenterology department and the department of General Medicine. He is involved in medical student and junior doctor training and mentoring. He is a lecturer at the ANU Medical School and enjoys his role in bedside teaching, lecturing and examination of both undergraduate students and RACP fellowship candidates. He has sat on and chaired a variety of committees within the hospital to improve quality of patient care. He also provides gastroenterological services in NSW at the Queanbeyan District Hospital.
He has published a number peer review articles and assisted both medical registrars and medical students in publications.
He practices all aspects of gastroenterology but has a specific interest in luminal gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease and small bowel video capsule endoscopy.
